Pataxó
A people proud of their roots, who maintain the heritage of their culture and ancestry. A portrait of Brazil that few know, and that the great powers want to fade. This project portrays my look at the experience I had for 40 days in different Pataxós villages in Bahia, filming and photographing for a cultural project.
I was with these communities on grounds they considered sacred, which they honor by keeping traditions passed down for generations.
The original language (Patxôha) still in used.
Dances, body paintings, cuisine: a cultural richness that I experienced in this immersion.
In the light of the full moon, I joined more than 50 indigenous to dance Auê, their typical dance, and sing around a large fire.
A unique and invigorating experience, unforgettable in my career.
Today, I reinforce my look with this project to claim a current issue, of a people being taken from their land with nowhere to go. It is not just a matter of taking possession of a territory, it is part of the history of our ancestors being destroyed.
